Message from the President

Sister Lauren, C.V.I.

Incarnate Word Academy President (2000-present)

On the Move! From my vantage point, yes – that seems to be the perfect image.  As I reflect upon all that is happening here at the Academy, I can’t help but think – Girls on the Move! In January, our girls participated in Close Up, a week-long, hands-on study of government in Washington D.C. Our seniors continue to receive acceptances from their colleges and universities of choice, including Columbia University, Dartmouth College, Brown University, Vanderbilt University, Rice University, Creighton University and Fordham University and acceptances are still coming! Several juniors have been invited to summer programs at some prestigious schools such as Princeton, Stanford, Vanderbilt and Oxford.
Our students have represented us so well in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) competition. They have won on the regional level and are moving onto state competition in academics, art, music and athletics. This year, for the first time, we have two handbell choirs and they are advancing to state as well.  This spring break found students moving in two different directions for mission trips – South Texas (Weslaco) and the Dominican Republic. While they went to help others, which in fact they did, they also experienced a deep appreciation for all they received in return.  Our students are currently moving ahead and working hard to present “Suessical the Musical” which promises to be an excellent production on April 25-27.  Our Young Leaders Program is successfully preparing all of our students to be Young Women on the Move, providing unique, incredible experiences to develop leadership skills and character. I am so proud of all of our students who are just wonderful, kind and loving girls and, in their own way, use their God-given talents to exemplify our cornerstones — Academics, Values and Spirituality.  Definitely, Girls on the Move!

IWA is not the only one on the move! There are great things continuing to happen in our neighborhood. We are located in a coveted spot and in the heart of the action downtown. It is very exciting to know that our Neighborhood is on the Move.

Even our Church is on the move! Watching the coverage of the recent election of Pope Francis I was so exciting. We are so blessed to have him as our leader. The early glimpses of his warm, humble and simple demeanor is an encouraging sign that he will connect with his flock. I am struck by the fact that immediately we all began to pray for him and his ministry to the Church. That surely sends him off to a great start as a Pope on the Move!

In gratitude, I ask God to bless each of you who have helped us along the way as a parent, staff, board member, alumnae or friend of the Academy. All are needed to keep the Academy on the Move.

Praised be the Incarnate Word,

Sister Lauren Beck, C.V.I.
