The purpose of the IWA counseling office is to promote, coordinate, and supervise the workings of the counseling department within the framework of the mission, philosophy and goals of Incarnate Word Academy. The counseling office provides guidance to students concerning personal and academic issues. Students may make their own appointments with the school counselor, either individually or in groups. Referrals may be made by teachers, administrators, and parents as well. Parents are urged to inform and update the school if they have concerns about their daughter(s).

Enrichment and Skills Programs give students the opportunity to explore new fields and prepare for future studies. Courses are designed to highlight students' strengths and to enrich their experiences. Participants in this program receive narrative evaluations but no grades or credits.

Volunteer Services is accepting applications for our Summer Youth Volunteer Program, giving teenagers a unique opportunity to gain experience in a healthcare setting and experience the personal satisfaction of helping others. Reach for the Stars: Students Taking Action & Reaching for Success
The Society of Vincent de Paul is accepting applications for volunteers to work as Mentors & Camp Facilitators for their Summer Day Camp program. The program runs from June 2-August 29, 2008. Candidates should be at least 16 years old. Houston Chronicle Summer Workshop
The Houston Chronicle and the University of Houston sponsor a free, four-week summer workshop for high school students interested in journalism who will be seniors in the fall. High school students in Harris, Montgomery, Liberty, Chambers, Galveston, Brazoria, Fort Bend or Waller county are eligible to apply. Classes will be conducted by Houston Chronicle staff reporters, editors, photographers and graphic artists. Subjects include reporting, writing, editing, and interviewing practices and principles of photojournalism, graphics and newspaper design.
