Press Release: National Forensic League
Incarnate Word Academy-South Texas has been granted affiliate membership in the National Forensic League. Founded in 1925, the NFL is a speech and honorary society which is represented in 2700 schools nationwide. Over 1,150,000 students and teachers have gained membership, including former Vice-President Hubert Humphrey, newswoman Jane Pauley, actor James Dean, television star Oprah Winfrey, Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer, C Span President Brian Lamb, and comedian Kelsey Grammer.
The NFL sponsors awards based upon participation and success in speech and debate events. It also sponsors district competition and the National Tournament in Policy Debate, Lincoln -Douglas Debate, Public Forum Debate, Extemporaneous Speaking, Original Oratory, Dramatic, Humorous, and Duo Interpretation and Student Congress.
IWA currently has four students who have achieved membership status in the NFL. These students are: Senior, Brittany Revia; Senior, Lauren Camp; Senior, Molly Moore; Junior, Diana Maass; Junior, Jordan Riley; and Junior, Raven Troup. Lauren Camp has also received a Degree of Honor to add to her membership certificate. In order to achieve member status, the students had to earn points by participating in speech and debate events.
