We asked Olivia Green '20, a member of the Incarnate Word Academy Choir, for her thoughts on the ensemble's upcoming Fall Concert, "Alway Something Sings," a collection of music that celebrates the art of singing itself. She shared the experience of preparing for the concert:
The Incarnate Word Academy Choir is in full swing preparing for their annual fall concert. The group of 40 singers has had an exciting year thus far, and is thrilled to be performing in their first formal concert! The IWA Choir has been a longstanding tradition here at the Academy and if you do the math, about 10 percent of our student body is part of the ensemble. Each and every one of the girls is excited for the opportunity to join together in song.
“Choir has always been a blast, and we all have to rely on each other,” stated senior Julia Santos. “We each have different parts and different notes, but when we come together we create such a beautiful sound.”
Aligning with the idea of coming together, this year the Choir will be joined in song by the St. Thomas Singers, both under the direction of Mr. Josh Wilson. This year’s Fall Concert is about bringing different voices and types of music together. The choirs are siging a variety of different pieces ranging from ecclesistical to folk songs.
The two choirs have been preparing for this concert since the beginning of the school year, putting countless hours of work into learning the specific notes and rhythms. The Incarnate Word Academy Choir is comprised of girls with varying skill levels, yet each of them have been able to join together in creating beautiful music.
If you would like to check out our amazing Choir be sure to join us on Monday Nov. 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium!
