Chalking it Up

Before the sun rose Friday morning, IWA students were out on Jackson Street, chalking up the sidewalk with messages of support for our downtown neighbors, the Houston Astros.

The team heads into Game Six of the ALCS tonight, Oct. 22, at 7:08 p.m., taking on the Boston Red Sox. The 'Stros currently lead the series three games to two.

The students' artwork attracted a lot of attention from local media, with channels 2, 11 and 13 turning up to see the girls' artwork. Brhe Berry of ABC-13 filed this report:

You can also read Channel 13's story here.

The girls were also live on the morning newscast on KPRC Channel 2. You can see that report here. The station's Brittany Jeffers was with our students for a cut-in at 7:25 a.m. during the Today Show:

She then returned to IWA for live shots in the 11:00 news:

And Channel 11 had a chat with Elizabeth Drake '22:

For the ALCS, students were allowed to wear Astros shirts with their uniform skirts, showing their excitement for our home team. There's something truly exciting about being in the heart of all the Astros action downtown.

Here are just a few of the drawings the girls created. You can see more on our Facebook and Instagram.
