iLunch Brings Community Together

A favorite tradition of students at Incarnate Word Academy is the annual International Lunch, or iLunch. Students and parents bring food specialties from their culture to share with the community. After lunch, a joyful assembly kicks off where students perform cultural dances, model fashions, and celebrate.

In any language, the 2023 iLunch and Assembly was incredible! Students and parents brought food from more than 30 countries to share with the community. Buffets overflowed with Irish soda bread, Vietnamese summer rolls, enchiladas, pupusas, Jamaican jerk chicken, Italian pizza, Indian food, and dessert specialties from around the globe. Thank you to the many parents who cooked food, set up tables, and cleaned up after lunch.

After iLunch, students gathered in the Auditorium for dances by the Asian American Culture Club and the Spanish Culture Club, as well as slam poetry by the African American Culture Club. More than 20 students (and a couple of teachers) modeled traditional dresses or costumes–including a moose outfit from Canada! The show wrapped with a high-octane performance by the K-POP Club. Kudos to Dean of Students Stacey Kornegay for coordinating the event, as well as the World Languages and Social Studies departments.
