DUAL CREDIT
For the 2023-2024 school year, Incarnate Word Academy has launched at Dual Credit program in partnership with Lone Star College. Lone Star College is a public, nonprofit community college system serving the northern portions of the Greater Houston, Texas, area. Dual Credit is part of Lone Star College's exceptional admissions program, designed specifically for high school students who are ready for college-level instruction.
Students who demonstrate college readiness on a placement exam can earn college and high school credits simultaneously by attending classes at their high school or through a Lone Star College campus. Many of the classes are transferable to public colleges or universities in Texas, and some are accepted by out-of-state and private colleges. Benefits of Dual Credit are many:
- Gain experience with college-level academics while attending high school.
- Ease transitions between high school and college.
- Transfer credits earned in high school to Texas public colleges and universities.
- Complete a post-secondary degree in fewer semester.
- Save money on college tuition.
Incarnate Word Academy offers 5 Dual Credit courses: Government, English III, English IV, U.S. History, and Calculus. Dean of Academics Chris Shively is coordinating the school's program, and students interested in participating should contact her via email, cshively@incarnateword.org.
