Our Arts Program

Whether students are interested in mastering musical sight reading, pirouettes, embroidery, or theater props, IWA offers a wide array of artistic outlets.  IWA supports a school choir, a dance team, vocal and instrumental lessons, visual arts classes, and theater productions put on by our very own technical crew.

Our fifth-floor rehearsal space inspires our dance team and choir members with its sweeping view of downtown Houston, and our W.T and Louise J. Moran Performing Arts Center hosts our fall play and spring musical (with sets created by our Tech Crew), as well as numerous performances from our award-winning IWA Choir and others.  Situated just a short walk away from Houston's thriving arts district, students gain a appreciation for the arts by attending professional productions each year.

Music

IWA Choir performs with St. Thomas High School at the Christmas concert.

There are many opportunities to pursue a passion for music at IWA.  Incarnate Word Academy has a rich choral tradition and our award-winning choir performs at school events and competitions throughout the year.  Students interested in band play with St. Thomas High School Band and have performed at NRG Stadium.

Theater

Falcon Theatre presents Hairspray!

Falcon Theatre puts on two main-stage shows per academic year, a Fall Play and a Spring Musical. Students learn responsibility and the interdependence of all members of the production. They rely on each other not only to learn lines and blocking but also to run the sound board and the lighting, to manage set changes backstage, and to help each other when something goes wrong. In this way, theater teaches creativity not only as self-expression but as resourcefulness as well.

Visual Arts

Incarnate Word Academy is a private, all-girls Catholic college preparatory in the heart of downtown Houston.

Our Visual Arts Program focuses on developing student's understanding, experience and skill.

Students in our art classes develop their creative abilities in a variety of media and gain appreciation for the arts through exposure  to a variety of theories, techniques, and concepts. Students develop critical thinking skills through critiquing art work, studying artists of various regions and times, and discovering how cultural context influences art.

Dance

The IWA art program includes band, choir, theatre, tech crew, visual arts, and dance.

Many of the founding members of the IWA Impact Dance Team discovered their passion for dance as students in our elective dance class, while others have been dancing since elementary school.  This combination of experiences makes the Dance Program at IWA a welcoming environment committed to growing as a team, improving technique, and building confidence through performances.
