Fine Arts Program

Whether students are interested in mastering musical sight reading, pirouettes, embroidery, or theater props, IWA offers a wide array of artistic outlets.

IWA supports visual arts classes, a dance team and theater productions put on by our very own technical crew. IWA also collaborates with St. Thomas High School for a school choir and band program.

Music

There are many opportunities to pursue a passion for music at IWA. Incarnate Word Academy has a rich choral tradition and our award-winning choir performs at school events and competitions throughout the year. Students interested in band play with St. Thomas High School Band and have performed at NRG Stadium.

Theater

Falcon Theater puts on two main-stage shows per academic year. Students learn responsibility and the interdependence of all members of the production. They rely on each other not only to learn lines and blocking but also to run the sound board and the lighting, to manage set changes backstage and to help each other when something goes wrong.

Dance

Many of the founding members of the IWA Impact Dance Team discovered their passion for dance as students in our elective dance class, while others have been dancing since elementary school. This combination of experiences makes the Dance Program at IWA a welcoming environment committed to growing as a team, improving technique and building confidence through performances.

Visual Arts

Our Visual Arts Program focuses on developing student's understanding, experience and skill.

Students in our art classes develop their creative abilities in a variety of media and gain appreciation for the arts through exposure to a variety of theories, techniques and concepts. Students develop critical thinking skills through critiquing art work, studying artists of various regions and times and discovering how cultural context influences art.

Yearbook

Incarnate Word Academy students produce an award-winning yearbook called "The Margil" each year.  Although guided by instructor Sue Blackmon, each edition is created and designed by students. Each winter, the graduating seniors return for a get-together where they receive their copies and remember great times together.

Appreciation for the Arts

Our fifth-floor rehearsal space inspires our dance team and choir members with its sweeping view of downtown Houston.

Our W. T. and Louise J. Moran Performing Arts Center hosts our fall play and spring musical, as well as numerous performances from our award-winning IWA Choir and others. Situated just a short walk away from Houston's thriving arts district, students gain an appreciation for the arts by attending professional productions each year.
