Athletics

At Incarnate Word Academy, we believe that the seeds sown on the athletic field yield strong, confident young high school women.

Our student athletes learn sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership skills while participating in the nine different sports that we offer. We believe that the valuable lessons learned on the athletic field translate into success in every other facet of our students' lives. Incarnate Word Academy is proud to compete in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) district 3-5A.

Astros School Surprise!

World Series Champion Astros outfielders Jake Marisnick and Josh Reddick stopped by Incarnate Word Academy for a surprise visit for a special post-season School Surprise October Baseball kick off. The 30 students were joined by six sisters from the Congregation of the Incarnate Word & Blessed Sacrament who are loyal supporters of the hometown team. Besides a visit, the Astros teammates had more surprises up their sleeve. They presented thirty tickets to Game 1 of the ALDS playoffs. After the cheering subsided, Marisnick and Reddick invited the girls to play, “Ask an Astro” and responded to questions from IWA students for about twenty minutes. Sister Brigid Cummins, C.V.I., former principal of Incarnate Word Academy, summed up the classroom's sentiments beautifully with, "I want to thank you all for your sportsmanship. I've been following the Astros since 1969. We’re very proud of you and appreciate what you do. And thank you especially for today."

Volleyball Varsity rallies for 3-2 victory of St. Pius X

What a game the Varsity VB Team played on Thursday night! Although the team was down 0-2 to St. Pius X, they didn’t feel they were beaten. They battled back and won the next 3 sets to beat them 3-2. Athletic Director Coach Perez shared, "In my 18 years here I’ve never seen a game so intense as this one. They fought really hard. The two and a half hour game was well worth watching and cheering.
