A Letter to the IWA Campus Community

February 3, 2021

Dear IWA Parents and Guardians,

Yesterday we sent you a communication that the school would be closed to on campus education, after school activities and sports until further notice.  We stand by that decision.  The decision was data-driven because the number of students testing positive or exposed to the COVID Virus had escalated to more than 25% of the student population on campus.  It was a responsible decision to maintain a safe campus.

We know that it was frustrating to some of you that we used the phrase, “until further notice.” We understand that no one wants to stay in remote learning one second more than needed.  We did, however, use the phrase intentionally because it allowed us to honor your need to know the situation and the necessary measures we needed to take.   In addition, the school needed the time to review the sliding scale of dates when students could actually return to campus for classes, after school activities and sports.  We have completed the review and are able now to give you more focused information.  Please note these dates could change if there is a surge in positive cases and/or exposure to our community.

Please know that our main concern is the health and welling being of your daughters.  We realize that not all decisions seem reasonable to your family’s need but please keep in mind that we are charged with responsibilities for the entire school community.

** If your student is experiencing any of the COVID symptoms, or has tested positive, even if she is asymptomatic, she should not participate in any school-related activity.  The same holds true if she has been exposed to anyone testing positive for COVID-19. Please, when in doubt, stay home.  There will be a temperature check before students enter the building.

The Teens 4 Unity Talent Show is being rescheduled for a future date and additional information will be sent out.

These are trying times, for sure.  We ask that all of us practice patience and flexibility to face the current challenges and those that lie ahead.

Sincerely,
