Parents, alumnae, and friends of IWA served at panelists for an insightful and varied Career Day.
“Because of IWA, I was prepared for college,” says Katie Bourgeois ‘23, a freshman at Texas A&M. Her assertion was a common refrain from former students who returned to campus for the annual Alumnae College Panel on January 4.

Last May, the Class of 2023 closed out the year with a school record $14 million in scholarships for 75 students. Dr. Talia Pennington-Dorsey, the director of College Counseling, predicts a successful year for the Class of 2024 as well.

Incarnate Word Academy celebrated the school's 150th Foundation Day on Friday, April 28. The morning began with the traditional crowning of the Blessed Mother and Mass. After Mass, the community walked to the 609 for the Jeanne de Matel Award presentation, lunch, and games.
Over Spring Break, ten students flew to Santo Domingo for a mission trip sponsored by IWA's Teens4Unity. As part of the service mission, the students taught English classes to young children at a local school called Cafe Con Leche.
A favorite tradition of students at Incarnate Word Academy is the annual International Lunch, or iLunch. Students and parents bring food specialties from their culture to share with the community. After lunch, a joyful assembly kicks off where students perform cultural dances, model fashions, and celebrate.
For the 3rd year in a row, IWA takes the President's Cup at Steps for Students.
January's Career Day kicked off with a keynote speech from alumna Manuelita “PJ” Barnett ‘02. Manuelita, a funeral home director, emphasized three qualities for students to develop: composure, resilience, and focus. These qualities have enabled her to help and counsel her clients, overcome personal hardships, and persevere to complete a college degree. Following the keynote, more than 40 professionals from fields ranging from fine arts to engineering shared their career advice and experience with the students.
IWA’s Young Leaders Program Director Eric Kerr-Heraly has always had a knack for trivia. In November, he got to test his talent as a competitor on Jeopardy.
More than 20 alumnae from the classes of 2020, 2021, and 2022 returned to campus on Thursday, January 5, to participate in panel discussions about life after IWA.

Everyone who attends school Mass at IWA knows that the IWA Choir, directed by Joshua Wilson, is a talented bunch. Recently they earned regional and state awards from Texas Private School Music Educators.
Leadership Live, a student-run speaker series that focuses on career, leadership, and life skills, kicked off their 2022-2023 season with author, TED Talk presenter, and motivational coach Suzan Nguyen.
Four Incarnate Word Academy seniors were recently named Commended Scholars by the National Merit Scholarship Program: Marie Culbreth, Amelie Dinh, Iman Haddad, and Claire Michael.
