Campus Ministry Team

The Celebration of the Eucharist is the Source and Summit of our Catholic faith. Every month, we gather as a community to celebrate Mass next door, at Annunciation Catholic Church.

The Liturgy Team cultivates active participation in the Mass by inviting students to serve as Liturgical Ministers!

Students of all grades are given training and formation to serve as:

• Ushers
• Lectors
• Altar Servers
• Sacristans
• Cantors/choir
• Gift Bearers
• Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (Seniors only)

Additionally, we offer an optional Mass every Wednesday before school at 7:30 a.m. in our IWA Chapel, which is open to students and faculty all day, every day.

The Eucharistic Heart of Jesus is the heart of our worship at IWA.

The Prayer team coordinates a wide variety of prayer activities for students of all different faith backgrounds to encounter Christ in ways that resonate with their heart including:

• Praise and Worship, led by our Hearts on Fire Faculty Band

• Rosary devotions

• Morning offering on announcements every day

• Prayer before lunch

• Euhcaristic Adoration in the chapel during Advent and Lent

• Eucharistic procession through Downtown on Holy Thursday

At IWA, we create space for every student to find a way of praying that speaks to their heart and draws them closer to Jesus, the Word made flesh.

The Retreat Program is a fundamental component of an IWA education; our students attend retreat every year.

Each year, students are given the opportunity to step away from the business of school and take the time to rest, recharge and reconnect to God, ourselves and others. At any IWA retreat, expect to experience:

• Genuine Fun: Games and activities led by our Campus Ministry Team allow students to be playful and enjoy one another
• Authentic Community: Small groups facilitated by CMT students foster connection and sisterhood among the class
• Rest and Reflection: While spending time in nature, students are given time for individual prayer with scripture and reflection questions provided by the Director of Campus Ministry
• Praise and Worship: While the cornerstone of our retreats is the Holy Mass, IWA retreats are uniquely brought to life by the hallmark of our praise and worship music, including original music written by and for our IWA community.

The Service Team at IWA is committed to helping students encounter Christ through the members of our community who are most in need.

Students identify organizations within the Houston community where we can truly live out our faith through service. As part of theology classes, all students complete service hours either on their own or with the Campus Ministry Team. By the end of each year, students complete the following number of service hours:

Freshmen Year: 15 hours

Sophomore Year: 20 hours

Junior Year: 25 hours

Senior Year: 75 hours by December 1

Every Monday, CMT hosts a student-led Bible Study for all students to gather and share their unique reflections and perspectives on the Word of God.

Our Bible Study leaders are trained in Lectio Divina, an ancient Catholic practice of prayerfully reading the scriptures. Additionally, they host Bible Studies that cultivate sisterhood, hospitality and an encounter with Christ.
