Leadership in Practice
We know that the Young Leaders Program is simply the beginning. We encourage a mindset of ongoing personal growth by offering students the opportunity to join a YLP team or take advantage of our leadership resources.
Leadership Live! is a monthly speaker series that brings a distinguished leader in the Houston community to Incarnate Word Academy each month. The Leadership Live! team plans, invites, hosts, and recaps the entire speaker series for the student body. After the events, they ask the guest to answer three questions for their signature "Leadership Live! Triple Play" videos. Check out some of the team's videos below.
Volunteer and Wish-Granter for Make-A-Wish Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana, Ms. Wright spoke about what drew her to the work of helping others: "Nothing else compares. It gives you joy that you can't experience any other way."
Mrs. Mankarious stopped by to share her journey from intern to CEO at Houston Crime Stoppers. In addition to helping keep the community safe, her pillars to success are: work hard, letting go of ego, passion over anger, and most of all–prayer!
Ms. Ginger Sprouse
"I realized that the entire community cared about this situation, but it seemed like everyone was waiting for someone else to take the first step." Ms. Ginger Sprouse told her story of taking the first step with Victor, a homeless man in her hometown.
Colin shared his story of unexpected tragedy (a serious car accident that left him in a coma for 16 days) and overcoming adversity (he will graduate from UNC this spring) with humor, honesty, vulnerability, and charm.
Little Angels/Big Angels (LABA) gives students the opportunity to put their lessons in servant leadership into practice. Each month, students design and execute an event created specifically for the after-school care children at Wesley Community Center. While creating memories for these children is the mission, our students are also practicing the important skill of reflection as each event they work to create a deeper and more lasting impact on Wesley.
Launched in 2014, Look n Lead is an exciting one-of-a-kind conference specifically for 7th and 8th-grade girls who have an interest in learning how to become leaders. Since you must first learn to lead yourself before you can lead others, the focus of this day is on making sure you know who you are and what you stand for.

Incarnate Word Academy strongly encourages students to participate in formal enrichment experiences during their time away from school. Typically, attended during the summer, these 4-5 day programs are intended to stretch your thinking, social skills, and leadership abilities. We hope they are life changing

Leadercast is a simulcasted live from Atlanta, GA and brings inspiring leadership content and stories to professionals in the local sites. IWA is proud to join this professional environment teaching our students the meaning of lifetime learning.
Each year IWA’s senior class attends the annual Young Women’s Leadership Conference at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
The conference, held exclusively for IWA students at PwC’s offices at Wells Fargo Plaza, aims to build student confidence, inspire students to take managed risks, and set expectations for working in a professional environment.
Step by step, I’m learning how to become a strong, excellent leader. I’ve learned to be confident and bold. This school has taught me kindness, humility, responsibility, perseverance, and a lot more.
